hello humans. 2024 is very very soon coming to an end so ive decided to write a short review of all the cool new things that happend to me since ive got some free time to kill before the new year.
joining college
soooooo, i managed to get into a decent enuf college.
a few months before actual coming to the campus, i decided to join communities
of my college to find and interact with my potential frens.
it was probably the best decision i made. i managed to interact and then eventually be friends with a lot of cool people. so it was probably one of the nicest thing that happend this year.
re-discovering city-pop/80s nippon music
in 2020, i first discovered city pop music through my beloved anime city hunter. back then i didnt explore much of this genre. mostly listened to the same songs on repeat. soon enough i got fed up with it and moved on.
now fast forward to this year, one of the mixes of xerf xpec came into my youtube recommendations. i dont exactly remember which video was it but it was a really good mix. i then went on to explore their channel and found about jazz fusion genre and a lot of popular artists like taknaka, casiopea, t-square and many others :D
my current favourite nippon artists are:
- kiyotaka sugiyama from omega tribe.
- akina nakamori
- masayoshi takanaka
get into vidya gaming
this was one of the few things i wanted to do this year and successfully managed to complete it.
i was able to complete only a few vidya games though. that includes:
- monkey island both 1 and 2
- warioware on gba
- sunset riders
- devil may cry almost completed this one
yakuza 2 would have been on this list but i cant get past the 2nd boss :(
i will complete whole yakuza series in 2025. i swear.
travelling
got to travel alone to bangalore for attending an event with one of the frens from my college.
we couldnt explore the area and lost as well but just attending the event was fun.
i suck at socializing so couldnt talk to a lot people but it was really nice to just listen to people yap about their work and interests.
git gud at computers
got access to laptop 2 years ago and since then, i have given my 100% to explore cool new technologies and i feel like i have learned and improved a lot at it.
learnt a lot of new libraries, frameworks, tools. now im confident enough to build anything that comes to mind. just need enough motivation to keep building it ;-;
be more disciplined
i kind of failed on this one as i was too late to this but i feel like i have made an significant improvement in my self.
swapped the time i spent doom scrolling on youtube or lurking in a random chatroom to partially reading books, reading about random stuff i come across and dip deeper into it and controlling my screen time.
i re-gained overall self-control. i didnt know it was this easy to let go of addiction. you just need to stop; tell your brain to stop and youre good to go. no fancy tool can help you in any way as long as you do not make up your mind to stop. its not that hard.
wish i had realised this a bit earlier. my life would have become so much better and easier.
this was probably the best year in last decade(?) of my life :)
setting goals for next year
these are listed based on the priority i have given them.
- actually start reading non-technical books. i have picked up the tartar steppe by dino buzzati and will complete it as soon as possible.
- earn my own moni. want to earn enough for building my personal projects.
- be more social. dont sit silent and just respond to others like an npc.
- give attention to health.
